SBA Disaster Loan Application

The Small Business Administration (“SBA”) provides low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and most private nonprofit organizations. SBA disaster loans can be used to repair or replace the following items damaged or destroyed in a declared disaster: real estate, personal property, machinery and equipment, and inventory and business assets. The federal government has already issued a disaster declaration for Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Clear Creek, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer, Logan and Weld counties. If you are in one of these declared disaster areas and have suffered any disaster related damage, you may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. Even if you’re not sure whether you can qualify for and/or can afford an SBA loan, it may still be a good idea to fill it out and return it to the SBA. If you don’t qualify for a loan, it’s possible that the SBA may refer you for a FEMA grant to help replace disaster-damaged essential personal property such as damaged or destroyed major appliances.

The following information is required to complete your SBA online application:

  • Contact information for all applicants
  • Social security numbers for all applicants
  • FEMA registration number
  • Deed or lease information
  • Insurance information
  • Financial information (e.g. income, account balances and monthly expenses)
  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) for business applicants

Submitting Your SBA Disaster Home Loan Application

Before submitting a disaster loan application, homeowners and renters must register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to obtain a FEMA Registration ID Number by calling 1-800-621-3362. The speech or hearing impaired may call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585.

After obtaining your ID Number, there several ways to apply for a disaster loan:

  1. If you would like to apply for a disaster loan, you can submit an online appliciation. The SBA reports on its website that applying online is the fastest way to receive a decision about your loan eligibility;
  2. You also have the option of submitting a paper application by mail; or
  3. You can visit one of the Business Recovery Centers recently opened in Colorado and receive one-on-one help from an SBA representative.

Please refer to Filing Requirements, which appear on page 3 of SBA Form 5. All required documents listed in the Filing Requirements must be provided as part of the application process. All forms requiring signature must be signed and dated. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
